Where there's a wedding – there's a way

Where there's a wedding – there's a way

Tegan’s partner popped the question on her birthday, 2019. Long before she, or any of us, knew what 2020 would be like. She didn't know the savings plan she and her partner put together for the wedding would be needed for other things. 2020 would see illness, and job losses in the family. But being pragmatic didn’t mean Tegan couldn’t remain optimistic. She and her partner had good, stable jobs, and a future together to look forward to. Her wedding would happen—she just needed to think outside the box, look at things in a new way, and focus on what’s important.

Tegan and her partner decided to look into borrowing some of the money they would need for their wedding. They tried one well-known traditional finance company: ‘my partner had used them before, but they just messed us around—it took four days to get a reply and it wasn’t anywhere near what we asked for, and the interest rate was ridiculously high—we’re both like, “we’re not doing it.”’

At that point, Tegan and her partner decided to put the wedding back to some time in 2022. A friend then suggested she try Harmoney. “You’ll probably get your money within like a day,” her friend told her.1

Tegan found the whole experience of Harmoney so different from what she had been used to. “Harmoney was so stress-free. I didn’t have to log on to everything and pull off so much information to submit, and I didn’t have to have like 20,000 phone calls—or even a single call!”

With the money they needed for their wedding, Tegan began planning. Not only could they set a date, they could bring that date back to 2021, with confidence they could cover the costs. “We can now have that wedding. I can wear that white dress. He can wear that tux. We can set a date and get on with our future. We’re not uncertain now. It’s nice to know that we can be married without the stress of “do we have enough? Are we going to be able to afford everyone? Are we going to be able to do life?!”

With many of Tegan’s family living overseas (having moved to NZ years earlier), she will be missing many of the important people in her life on her big day. But she’s hopeful of visiting in the near future: “it’s my cousin’s wedding in December next year so we’d really like to get over there for that. That will be our big honeymoon, we’ve decided.”

Harmoney’s purpose is to help people get on with the things they want to achieve, through financial services that are friendly, fair, and easy to use. If you have a goal in mind, apply for a Harmoney personal loan—we offer loans with personalised interest rates for almost any purpose you can think of1.
